LEGISLATIVE UPDATES

On November 21, 2014, the President issued a memorandum giving the Secretaries of State and Homeland Security 120 days to lead an effort to develop recommendations on the subject of modernizing and streamlining the U.S. immigrant and nonimmigrant visa system. On December 30, 2014, the Department of State and the Department of Homeland Security released a Notice of Request for Information with 18 questions which seek public feedback on streamlining the legal immigration system, ensuring use of all immigrant visa numbers and modernizing the immigration IT infrastructure.  Questions include possible changes to employment-based immigrant and non-immigrant visa petitions such as the H-1B visa, the EB-5 immigrant investor visa, and the temporary worker program.
