Training Academy News

On May 9, 2016, students from Chariho Career and Technical Center, Warwick Area Career and Technical Center, the Cranston Career and Technical Center and William M. Davies, Jr. Career and Technical Center competed in a cook off featuring local mussels donated by American Mussel Harvesters, Inc.  The ProStart students from William M. Davies, Jr. Career and Technical Center took home the win.  Their prizes included professional chefs’ knives, an invitation to dine at 22 Bowen’s and their winning dish is now being featured at Trio Restaurant in Narragansett.

On May 23, 2016, the winning team was invited to cook with Executive Chef Walter at Trio in Narragansett.  The students were shown how to make pizzas with Chef and enjoyed a wonderful lunch prepared by the students and Chef Walter.  They were afforded the opportunity to speak with Karsten Hart, Gretchen O’Brien and Chef Walter, all with Newport Harbor Corporation, about their careers and how they got to their current positions.  The students also discussed their current employment and how they can take steps to continue growing their careers.
